The Odd Fellows exists solely to help their fellow human beings. Its objective is to Improve and Elevate the Character of Mankind.
In 18th century England, it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and pursuing projects for the benefit of
all mankind. Those who belonged to such an organization were called 'Odd Fellows.'
The Odd Fellows is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations. Friendship, Love and Truth; Faith, Hope and Charity; and Universal Justice
are the cornerstones of the Order. The Odd Fellows established and ran the first orphanages in the united States and today in Massachusetts run a
non-profit nursing home in Worcester.
The Medway lodge, Rising Sun Lodge No. 99 has been at the existing site for over 100 years. About 30 years ago it housed the Post Office, a
Grocery Store and a Pharmacy as well as the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Locally the Odd Fellows selects and sends HS students to the Odd Fellows United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth and provides meeting space for
community groups such as High School Peer Counselors, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts. Recently it ran a fund-raiser for the
Medway Library.
Inexpensive 'All you can eat' dinners are usually held at the hall on the third Saturday of most months to raise funds for projects and expenses of the buildings. Besides no-charge community use, the hall is available to rent for functions.
A man or woman who is 16 years of age or older, of good character, who is loyal to his or her country and belives in a Supreme Being, the creator and
preserve of the Universe, is eligible for membership. Odd Fellowship strictly forbids any interference with one's religious beliefs or pilitical opinions.
